The 71-year-old left the mountain and fell into a deep ravine

A 71-year-old man from Barcelona died on Friday January 14 while skiing in the winter resort of Astun in the Pyrenees of Huesca. The man seems to have left the mountain and then fallen into a deep ravine.

Station sources informed Europe Press that the accident happened around noon. A call was received from eyewitnesses reporting seeing the man in difficulty, and emergency personnel immediately responded to the location.

They found the man living in a deep ravine in the Truchas area, from where he was rescued and transferred to the station’s medical facility, where he later died of his injuries.

The Jaca Mountain Guardia Civil took over the investigative work to try to clarify how the accident happened. Astun officials stressed that they did not know what could have happened, as the track he was skiing on was not a difficult area. They sent their condolences to the family of the deceased.
