With an urgent announcement of the Deputy Minister of Sports Lefteris Avgenakis, it became known that the facilities of responsibility of the General Secretariat of Sports will remain closed tomorrow for the citizens.
The following is the announcement of Lefteris Avgnakis:
“By decision of the Deputy Minister of Sports, Lefteris Avgenakis, the sports facilities in Attica, which are supervised by the GGA, will operate tomorrow, Friday, October 15, only with security personnel, due to the expected severe weather conditions. Therefore, they will not be allowed to enter sports citizens “.
According to the meteorologists, Thursday night is predicted to be difficult, especially for the south of the Peloponnese, where the “Ballos” is expected to hit in the next hours, but also for Attica from midnight until six in the morning on Friday.
The rainfall in Athens and the surrounding areas of Attica exceeded 140 mm due to the bad weather. The heavy rains and storms marked by the bad weather “Ballos” in Attica and especially in the city of Athens caused a variety of problems.
The highest heights were recorded at the stations of Patission (147 mm), Ampelokipi (145 mm) and Peristeri (139 mm). It is worth noting that 1 mm of rain corresponds to 1 ton of water per acre, so for example in the area of Patissia from the morning, when the rain began, until the afternoon of Thursday 14/10 fell 147 tons of water per acre.
The map below shows the distribution of rainfall in Attica as well as the stations of the network of meteorological stations of the National Observatory of Athens / meteo.gr that recorded the highest rainfall heights until the afternoon of Thursday 14/10. The same map also shows the areas that were burned in the catastrophic fires of the summer, which seem to have received smaller volumes of water with the exception of the area of Tatoi where 101 mm of rain fell.
The bad weather “Ballos” is spreading violently all over the country, causing floods and paralyzing many roads. Thunderstorms and hail are key features of bad weather, and in many areas traffic has been disrupted.
