Drunk driver in Mallorca charged with four crimes, including identity theft

Local police in Alcudia, on the Balearic island of Mallorca, arrested a man last Monday, October 11, after he was first seen driving erratically. It was later discovered that he was driving under the influence of alcohol during a breathalyzer test.

When asked for identification, the man produced the driver’s license of his boss, the owner of the vehicle. This deception worked until the next day, when it was discovered that he did not have a driver’s license and had taken his boss’s car without permission.

The man was ultimately charged with four offenses: driving under the influence of alcohol, without a valid driver’s license, vehicle theft and identity theft.

Police stopped the car after seeing it driving erratically

According to local Alcudia police, the driver was pulled over at 2:20 a.m. last Monday, when a patrol noticed that a car was driving erratically on the road to Arta. When subjected to a breathalyzer test, he tested positive, returning a reading of 0.98, well above the criminal offense rate of 0.60.

Four people showed up at the local police headquarters on Tuesday evening, including the driver investigated, who revealed that the individual had used his boss’s ID to identify himself. As the inmate did not have a valid license, he presented his boss’s documents that were inside the vehicle at the time.

He has since been handed over to the Pollenca Guardia Civil for trial, as reported diariodemallorca.es.
