The Wyoming coroner announced Tuesday that Gabby Petito died of strangulation.
“Our initial determination is that the body was in the desert for three to four weeks” before it was found, Teton County Coroner Brent Blue told reporters.
Dr. Blue said other information about the autopsy will not be released due to state law.

Last month, the FBI confirmed that the body found in a “very remote” area in Grand Teton National Park on Sunday is in fact 22-year-old Gabby Petito.
Petito and her fiancé, 23-year-old Brian Laundrie, were on a cross-country trip from New York to Oregon when 22-year-old Gabby disappeared.
A witness tipped off police and said they saw the white 2012 Ford Transit the two were traveling in near Spread Creek on Aug. 27.
Petito’s family reported Gabby missing on September 11, a couple of weeks after the last time she spoke to her mother.
Brian Laundrie is currently at large and has apparently disappeared.
