“If you look at it, it will ruin your game”

Derrick Rose, the youngest MVP in NBA history, probably knows more about Tom Thibodeau than anyone on the New York Knicks roster.

The coach-player duo became famous when Thibodeau was the main tactician for the Chicago Bulls and Rose won the only MVP of his career. They also crossed paths in Minnesota with the Timberwolves and finally at Madison Square Garden with the iconic New York Knicks franchise.

It’s no surprise that Rose offers advice to young players who are likely terrified by Thibodeau’s husky voice and no-nonsense approach.

During halftime in a game against the Detroit Pistons, Derrick Rose offered advice to his Knicks teammates, particularly those who screwed up defensive assignments in the first half.

This is what Rose said:

“Don’t look to the sideline. If you look at it, it’s going to ruin your game. Don’t look at it. Just raise your hand. Everybody knows you were wrong. You made a mistake. Just keep it up. If you look over there, it’s over. “

Why these solid and practical tips? Derrick Rose apparently made the same mistake the new ones were making. The 33-year-old explained:

“When I was younger I used to look on the sidelines a lot. And you feel those kind of strange emotions. After a while, I raise my hand and lower my head. Even then it is a winner. You can express yourself however you want as a man. “

Derrick Rose’s advice to young Knicks players before Tom Thibodeau walked into halftime in the locker room tonight: “If you look at it, it’s going to screw up your game” 🤣

Clearly, the star guard has the utmost respect for his coach. Tom Thibodeau has seen the best and worst of Derrick Rose’s career, so there is mutual admiration and respect between the two.

Rose is at a different stage in his career now, but he appears to be revitalized, with Thibodeau mapping plays and shouting instructions from the sidelines for the New York Knicks.

The acquisition of Derrick Rose and the signing of Tom Thibodeau are two of the best deals the troubled New York Knicks franchise has struck in years. The playoff appearance last year probably wouldn’t have happened without both of them.

How will Tom Thibodeau use Derrick Rose this season with the New York Knicks?

The current NBA Coach of the Year will likely use Derrick Rose off the bench to back Kemba Walker.

Walker’s persistent knee problems have caused him to miss numerous games in recent years. With age and usage increasing, those worrisome knee problems will likely hurt New York’s playoff momentum without Rose.

Some highlights of Derrick Rose from game 2 last year in the playoffs. He reminded us all how talented he still is.

Rose proved last season that he still has a lot left in the tank to be a vital player for the New York Knicks. He averaged 14.7 points and 4.2 assists in the regular season. Both averages increased when the playoffs began. He finished last year’s postseason with 19.4 points and 5.0 assists per game.

Derrick Rose’s skills, leadership and guidance in a New York Knicks youth lineup will be essential as the team builds on the success of last season’s playoff appearance.
