Good news.
Illinois Governor JB Pritzker deferred the COVID vaccine mandate for employees of veterans’ homes, prisons, and other congregation facilities until the end of November. Union members now have another 7 weeks to get vaccinated with the experimental COVID vaccine.

Union members opposed the mandates and thousands of people would have been fired this week if the mandate had not been extended.

ABC7 reported:

Governor JB Pritzker has pushed back a deadline for state employees in veterans’ homes, prisons and other congregation facilities to be vaccinated against COVID-19 while his office negotiates with unions representing some workers.

Pritzker, who in August set October 4 as the deadline for state workers covered by its requirement to receive the vaccine, said Friday. employees have until November 30 be fully vaccinated, the Chicago Tribune reported. The workers are employees of the Departments of Corrections, Veterans Affairs, Human Services, and Juvenile Justice.

The Pritzker administration has reached agreements with several unions representing state workers. But negotiations continue with Council 31 of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees and Teamsters Local 700. AFSCME, which represents about 15,000 state workers affected by the requirement, objected to what it called “rigid mandates.”
