Omicron arrives in Beijing three weeks before the Olympics
Omicron arrived in Beijing before the Olympic Games.
City officials said today that a woman in Haidian district said she had a sore throat on Thursday and a fever the next day. She tested positive for Covid-19 on Saturday morning. She had not left town in the previous two weeks and had not been in contact with any confirmed cases.
Local health officials have told residents not to leave town unless necessary. They also encouraged people commuting between neighboring provinces and Beijing to work from home.
Nationwide, another 104 locally transmitted cases were reported on Saturday, with about half of the country’s provinces battling some sort of outbreak with the Lunar New Year holiday less than two weeks away.
