The regional government’s environment department has approved changes to the fire prevention plan for the 1,114 hectare Sierra Helada National Park.

These changes correspond to the analyzes and diagnoses carried out between 2008 and 2017, focused on eight prevention action plans and seven others in the area of ​​infrastructure.
“Prevention is fundamental to protecting our national parks,” said Diego Martin, Director General of Forest Fire Prevention.

“Thanks to the plan, we are aware of the specific situation of the Sierra Helada and the fire prevention infrastructure and can create a unanimous plan, incorporating the contributions of park officials,” explained Martin.

Plans for the Sierra Helada, which lies within the boundaries of Altea and Benidorm, will be in effect for the next 10 years, spending € 563,179 to adapt fire prevention inside the park to its population, its terrain, its vegetation and the most common causes of fires. .

The revised plan includes information and advice for residents of neighboring urbanizations, encouragement to implement local fire prevention plans, and a review of individual municipalities’ schedules for bonfires.

The plan emphasizes the importance of improving access, listing where water is available while stressing the importance of reclaiming and maintaining plots of agricultural land in the national park and producing an evacuation plan. for emergencies.
