The bow and arrow attacker had been reported for radicalization, police said.

The bow and arrow attack killed five people in Kongsberg. Police chief Ole Bredrup Saeverud has revealed that officers are worried about the suspect. The man is a converted Muslim. Police believe he could have been radicalized.

A 37-year-old Dane is taken into police custody after the attack.

Prosecutor Ann Iren Svane Matthiassen, revealed that the man admitted to the attack. Four women and a man were killed in the attack and two others were injured.

Mr Saeverud commented: “From what we now know, it seems pretty clear that someone, probably everyone, was killed after police first came into contact with the assailant. “

The suspect was arrested about half an hour after the first confrontation.

Local resident Thomas Nilsen told NRK: “I thought it was war, because it was so intense.”

“But then I heard a scream that I had never heard before. It was a scream that burned in the soul. I will never forget it. I perceived it as a cry of death.

Speaking to VG newspaper, he added: “In the end, there were 20 to 30 police cars, ambulances and fire trucks there.

“So I didn’t stay to watch. “

A spokesperson for the Coop Extra supermarket commented on the shocking events. Several of the victims were in the stall when the attack took place.

The spokesperson said: “We can confirm that there has been a serious incident in our store and that none of our employees are physically injured.

“We are now concerned with monitoring our employees, and beyond that, we refer to the police investigation.”

Following the incident, additional police were deployed to the area. Officers who are generally unarmed have been advised to temporarily carry weapons.

A spokesperson for the Norwegian Police Directorate said: “This is an additional emergency measure. Police do not yet have concrete indications that there is a change in the level of threat in the country. “
