two silver medals for France in the 4 × 100 m medley relay; Ndoye Brouard wins bronze in 100m backstroke

The French delegation present in Rome at the European Swimming Championships now has thirteen medals to its name. French swimmers won silver in the 4 × 100 m medley relay on Wednesday August 17, behind the Swedes, European champions.

French swimmers, Pauline Mahieu (back), Charlotte Bonnet (breaststroke), Marie Wattel (butterfly) and Beryl Gastaldello (freestyle), smashed the French record over this distance, with a time of 3 min 56 s 36, i.e. three seconds better than the old record.

Successful Championships

The men’s team also took second place on the podium in the same race, behind the Italians. Yohann Ndoye Brouard (backstroke), Antoine Viquerat (breaststroke), Clément Secchi (butterfly) and Maxime Grousset (freestyle) clocked 3 min 32 s 50.

The third French medal of the day had been won a few hours earlier by Yohann Ndoye Brouard, who won bronze in the 100m backstroke, after being crowned in the 200m backstroke on Saturday.

The French delegation totals three gold medals, seven silver medals and three bronze medals, at the end of very successful championships.
